Alicia- You’ve had a lot of positive changes in your life, if there was one thing you think everyone should do, what would it be?
Mariangel- To understand how important self care is. I feel like emotional health is intertwined with that. I think that if people did that then they would be in a place to help others. I feel like right now there is that whole self care trend going on and that’s good but there has to be a balance.
Alicia-Is there anything that’s burning inside of you that you feel you can give the world? Something you’ve learned. If you were talking to someone who was in your position a year ago, what would you say?
Mariangel- I would say, stop worrying so much and trust the process. Don’t be so hard on yourself because ultimately you are going to make it. Be gentle with yourself. It’s not worth beating yourself up for things you can’t change. I think we have standards for ourselves that are ridiculous and unrealistic expectations from old belief systems. We all have that inner critic in our mind. I’m learning that not everything we think is truth. So just being more aware of our thoughts and knowing that not everything you think is a part of you. You have a choice to believe whatever you want to believe. Like with me, I’m starting to be more comfortable with my body. I do want to kind of dance more and feel a little more sexy because before I felt so insecure. Insecurity is not my identity. My identity is who ever I want and whatever I want to create.
Alicia-So what are you grateful for?
Mariangel- I have a heart that is still beating. I’m grateful for the people in my life that accept me for who I am and where I’m at in life. I have always been hard on myself. I wouldn’t do that to other people. People who love you, show you how to love yourself. I think that is so powerful because it shows you how connected we are supposed to be with one another.
Alicia-What is one word that sums you up?
Mariangel- Oh my goodness, just one word? Thriving. I have decided to take things out of my life, for me that was alcohol. It mask things that I didn’t want to face and numbed me. Now I’m able to see things in my life and I’m excited to grow in it. I’m beginning to know who I am and be more comfortable with that. I want to get to a place where I can give back to people. It’s all really overwhelming honestly to talk about.
Alicia- So you are looking forward to the future?
Mariangel- Yeah! I really have hope that if I continue to own my story it will be amazing.
Alicia-What is your story?
Mariangel-My story is about GRACE…there’s a lot of grace in it. I feel really connected with God in my own understanding of who he is. I have never felt alone but I always felt like there was a bigger picture even when I couldn’t see it. I feel like I have been given another chance. That’s what keeps me going. I did my own thing for a while and didn’t take responsibility for my actions and I chose to do that. But I feel like I have been given another opportunity. In order for me to go through that I had to experience the guilt. It taught me a lot about forgiveness and also compassion. It’s about reminding people that they can start again. There is so much grace and room to make mistakes and still be valuable and worthy. Those experiences just make us stronger and wiser. We are going to mess up we are human. I’m gonna cry. I can’t think straight. I’m just flooding with emotions. You don’t even earn it, its just there for you.
Alicia- Well, I don’t want you to think you haven’t earned it. You are carving out your roadmap and your growth. I think you should be proud of who you are and where you are going, continue to take care of yourself and what you are doing. It’s nice to see you proud of yourself of your body and mind. It’s good growth! It’s okay to have a positive self image and be ok with your body and mind and soul. I think you should give yourself a big o pat on the back. There is so much more to your journey.
Alicia Vazquez – Women’s Portraiture – Unique and beautiful just like you. Everyone deserves to have a beautiful picture. You don’t need a ton of photoshop. Now is the time to be you and own it. There is no one on earth like you and you only have one life to live. We are always seeking perfection but what if you are beautiful just the way you are right now?
I just want to send a special thank you to Mariangel for baring her soul and being vulnerable to share intimate details about her journey to healing. I want to thank you for reading if you are at the bottom of this page. Ciao
